Chamber honors deputy, others

Mark Gaither
Lee County Sheriff’s Deputy Mark Gaither was honored by the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce during its monthly meeting last week at Lozano’s restaurant on Homestead Road in Lehigh.
East Zone Capt. Todd Garrison made the official presentation on behalf of the chamber and other members of the department.
He told a large group of chamber members that on Sept. 22 of this year, the morning roll calls were discussed with intelligence disseminated regarding people of interest, those involved in burglaries, grand thefts, and dealing in stolen property.
Sometime around 9:40 a.m., the East District substation deputies were sent to a residential alarm activation at 312 Gordon Ave. S.
There, Gaither saw two men on gas powered motor scooters fleeing the area of the alarm.

Gaither recalled the photographs of the burglary suspects provided by East CID, and identified the individuals. Gaither tried to locate the suspects and notified responding deputies of the suspects’ description, mode of transportation, and last known location.
In response to Gaither’s observations, the two men were located nearby and apprehended.
Although both suspects were initially charged with traffic related offenses, it was quickly discovered by East CID detectives that both suspects were in possession of stolen property from a recent occupied burglary in the area, officials said.
Further questioning led to the serving of a search warrant at a home where numerous articles of stolen property were recovered, and an additional burglary suspect was located and arrested.
Capt. Garrison said that although all of the detectives involved performed in a professional manner, which brought credit to the Sheriff’s Office, Gaither’s attention to his surroundings and proficient use of Intelligence Led Policy (ILP) displayed an exemplary level of proficiency to safeguarding the citizens of Lee County and apprehending all persons who would bring harm to the innocent citizen. Members gave Gaither a standing ovation.
