Education Notes (10/21/15)
Financial Aid Nights scheduled
For many students, the dream of continuing their education past high school would not be possible if not for financial aid.
To assist students and families, Lee County Public Schools, with the help of a local financial aid expert, will host several Financial Aid Nights.
They are scheduled for:
– Nov. 3: Dunbar High School auditorium, 3800 Edison Ave., Fort Myers, from 6 to 8 p.m.
– Nov. 5: Cape Coral High School auditorium, 2300 Santa Barbara Blvd., Cape Coral, from 6 to 8 p.m.
– Nov. 17: South Fort Myers High School auditorium, 14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers, from 6 to 8 p.m.
– Nov. 19: Lehigh Senior High School auditorium, 901 N. Gunnery Road, Lehigh Acres, from 6 to 8 p.m.
Parents are invited to attend whichever event is convenient.
Those attending the meetings will learn about the Free Application for Federal Student Aid form and steps they need to take to help their children receive financial aid from postsecondary institutions (colleges, community colleges and high tech centers).
College financial aid experts will cover the definition of financial aid, how to apply, deadlines, step-by-step instructions for completing the FAFSA, Bright Futures, state aid versus federal aid and more.
Students take part in program
The National Junior Honor Society Program at Lehigh Acres Middle School is actively involved with the Lee County Adopt-a-Road Program.
NJHS members recently spent a Saturday morning along a stretch of Homestead Road picking up trash and debris.
The activity was coordinated by Elizabeth Salmon, sponsor of the school’s NJHS program.
