The search is on for the person who used a credit card stolen during a car burglary in Lehigh Acres and then used it at a 7-Eleven store.
According to Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers coordinator, someone broke through the left rear door window of a Chrysler Pacifica automobile, which was parked at the victim’s 23rd Street home.
The culprit stole several expensive designer items which were left in the car overnight, Routte said.
When the owner of the vehicle went to her car the next morning, she saw glass fragments on the driveway and inside the car. Some things had been thrown to the front passenger seat, but most of the woman’s valuable items stolen were stolen.
According to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the burglar took: a Michael Kors purse, valued at $400; Michael Kors wallet, valued at $100; 16GB iPad; credit card; and other personal identification.
The victim of the car burglary called her bank to report her credit card had been stolen and discovered that someone had used it at the 7-Eleven, at 4325 Lee Blvd., at 5:50 a.m. on Oct. 7.
Surveillance footage at the store has been viewed by detectives. Investigators said that the suspect is a black man who had used the victim’s credit card at the store.
“We definitely want to know who the person is that used the stolen card; but we also hope this will be a learning moment for anyone who leaves valuables in their car,” Routte in a statement.
“With the holidays quickly approaching, we want to remind everyone to never leave anything of worth in plain view inside a car,”?she said. “Even if a car is locked, if a thief sees something of value in plain sight, they’ll do whatever it takes to steal it. The rule of thumb is to always bring your valuables inside, or keep them locked securely in your car’s trunk. Don’t make yourself an easy target.”
The LCSO is asking for help from the public in helping to find the suspect. If you have any information on whom the suspect is who used the stolen credit card, you are urged to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477).
When someone contacts Crime Stoppers with information, they always remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000. Calls are never traced and rewards are always made in cash. Tips may also be made online at www.swflcrimestoppers.org or by texting a tip to CRIMES (274637) Key word: REWARD.
