Lee Clerk of Court receives Certificate of Achievement Financial Reporting award
The Lee County Clerk of Court’s Finance Department has received its 30th consecutive Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award for the comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The CAFR are the audited financial statements for Lee County that includes the Board of County Commissioners, Clerk of Courts, Property Appraiser, Sheriff, Supervisor of Elections, and Tax Collector offices.
The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. The CAFR is judged by an impartial panel of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) and must meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story.
Clerk of Court, Linda Doggett said of the award, “It takes a team of very accomplished and knowledgeable professionals working hard every day to make this happen. This award represents a significant achievement by the Clerk’s Accounting Department lead by Finance Director Terry Mallow and I am proud to be a part of it!”
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington D.C.

Financial aid nights to help students
For many students, the dream of continuing their education past high school would not be possible if not for financial aid. There are numerous ways students can get the financial help they need to make their college or university dreams a reality.
To assist students and families, Lee County Public Schools, with the help of a local financial aid expert, will be hosting several Financial Aid Nights. The events will be held in the school’s auditorium and will run from 6 to 8 p.m. as follows:
– Tuesday, Nov. 17, at South Fort Myers High School, 14020 Plantation Road, Fort Myers
– Thursday, Nov. 19, at Lehigh Senior High School, 901 Gunnery Road N., Lehigh Acres
While the events are scheduled at high schools in all three attendance zones, parents are invited to attend whichever event is convenient for them.
Those attending the meetings will learn about the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) form and steps they need to take to help their children receive financial aid from postsecondary institutions (colleges, community colleges, high tech centers, etc.)
College financial aid experts will cover the definition of financial aid, how to apply, deadlines, step-by-step instructions for completing the FAFSA, Bright Futures and state aid versus federal aid and more. The financial aid process can be very intimidating and these workshops help demystify the procedure and help parents and students feel more comfortable in going through the steps.
