Hundreds of youths visit Santa

Christmas has arrived in Lehigh Acres.
Santa Claus made his official visit outside on the lawn of Lehigh Regional Medical Center last Saturday night and more than 400 people were on hand to see Santa arrive on a fire truck from the Lehigh Acres Fire and Rescue District and the official lighting of the giant Christmas tree in front of the hospital.
The arrival of Santa and the lighting of the tree is a long-time tradition in Lehigh. Across town on Friday, special Christmas events were also being held at the Lehigh Town Centre.
At LRMC, Santa arrived at around dusk on the fire truck and was immediately swarmed with hundreds of young children who wanted to tell him what they wanted for Christmas.
“We had more than 400 people who attended the event on Saturday night, Dec. 5, at Lehigh Regional’s annual Community Tree Lighting,” said Dian Cimring, the hospital’s marketing director.

“This is something the hospital does for the community each year and more and more people come to enjoy the festivities and the refreshments,” she said.
She said 182 photos with Santa were taken, provided free to the families as a gift from the hospital.
“And gallons of hot chocolate and eggnog were consumed and hundreds of holiday cookies were enjoyed by everyone who attended,” Cimring said.
She noted that the hospital provided lots of entertainment this year, thanks to many groups.
“We had the Lehigh Child Center, Footnotes Dance Studio, Lehigh Children’s Choir, the Lehigh Boys & Girls Club, students from Mirror lakes Elementary and East Lee High School, including carolers and the band and all provided excellent holiday performances including singing, dancing and pageantry,” Cimring said.
The weather held out with only a brief sprinkle of rain, causing a slight delay.
Santa lit the tree a little past 7 p.m. after the final performance by the groups.
“It was very successful and with a lot of people there. We appreciate the support from the community and we enjoy presenting the official arrival of Christmas in Lehigh,” she said.
