Soisson named to Troy University Provost’s List

Samantha Soisson, of Lehigh Acres, has been named to the Provost’s List at Troy University for the fall semester of the 2015-16 academic year.

The Provost’s List honors full-time undergraduate students who are registered for at least 12 semester hours and who have a grade point average of at least 3.65.

Lehigh Concert Band offers scholarship

The Lehigh Concert Band will offer a scholarship of up to $250 to a high school or college/university student who rehearses and performs with the band.

Legion Auxiliary taking applications

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 323 are accepting applications from students interested in attending Florida Girls State.

It is open to juniors at Lehigh Senior High School and East Lee County High School who will be seniors in the fall of 2016.

Florida Girls State is a hands-on weeklong educational workshop, focusing on Americanism and political process.

The goal is to help students better understand democratic ideals and the part individuals play in carrying out those ideals.

Participants become citizens of and participate in creating a mythical state of Seminole. The state is divided into 12 cities, six counties and the citizens, assigned to either the Nationalist or Federalist Party.

As the government begins to take shape, the participants come to understand their roles in a democratic society.

There are eligibility requirements, as well as a selection process, to become a Girls State delegate for Florida.

Lehigh Senior High School students can contact their counselor; students at East Lee County High School can contact George Becker or Sgt. William Roseberry.

Applications due by Jan. 4.

SA Open Enrollment Period to begin

The Student Assignment Open Enrollment Period for the 2016-17 year will begin Jan. 11 and will run through April 1.

The period is for:

– Any student entering kindergarten, sixth grate or ninth grade

– Students who are new to the district

– Currently enrolled students who would like to change schools

On Jan. 8, pre-printed applications will be mailed to parents of pre-K students attending the Lee County Public Schools, as well as fifth- and eighth-grade students.

The applications will not be provided to new students in the district or students currently attending a charter school.

If families received a pre-printed application, they are strongly encouraged to apply online via the district’s website.

Parents of children who will be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 should apply for kindergarten; parents need to register even if they have an older child in school.

The following Student Assignment locations will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. for parents to register their children for school:

– Cape Coral Office, 370 N. Santa Barbara Blvd., Cape Coral

– Fort Myers Office, 2855 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers

– Lehigh Acres Office, 1262 Wings Way, Suite 207, Lehigh Acres
