Dave Kilbride

Can you sing or, better yet, can you play the guitar? If you can and enjoy country music, a Lehigh Acres man wants to talk to you.

Dave Kilbride, who lives in Lehigh during season, has played guitar for most of his life and for many of those years, he says he has played along.

“Now I am looking for an accompanist,” Kilbride, who has played all over Ohio and neighboring states including Lake Erie Island and Cedar Point, an amusement park and resort.

Kilbride and his wife, Janet, are winter residents and return up north in early spring.

Kilbride has been an overland truck driver for during his professional life and now in his early 70s, is retired and wants to get back to doing what he enjoys best – playing and singing for local groups and clubs.

PHOTO SPECIAL TO THE CITIZEN Shown with his guitar is this publicity photo of Dave Kilbride. The musician is looking for someone to accompany him while he is in Lehigh for the season.

“My parents bought my first guitar which was a Gibson when I was eight years old and I was playing in night clubs by the time I was 10,” Kilbride said.

Never having taken a lesson, Kilbride is self-taught and has been playing the guitar ever since. And his wife says he is very good at it and Kilbride says she is his greatest fan.

Kilbride said he stopped playing and joined the Air Force in 1962 and was discharged in 1965 and began playing again with different groups.

Then he decided to go it alone, but now wants to find someone, hopefully in the Lehigh area or elsewhere in Lee County, to join him and enjoy playing music as much as he does.

Kilbride said he retired in 2001 and started visiting Florida playing for a private party and the president of the Friends of the Library head him and asked him if he would be interested in playing for the libraries in the surrounding areas.

“For the last 10 years, I have played in libraries in Sarasota, Englewood, Port Charlotte, Ponta Gorda, Lehigh Acres, Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Pine Island, Sanibel Island, Estero, Bonita Springs, Naples, Marco Island, and assisted living units and for private parties.

He plays 40s, 50s, and 60s music and a few that go back earlier in time – and old country music.

“If you like the same type of music, and enjoy the guitar or keyboard, then Kilbride is looking for you.

“I would like to have someone accompany me, either on a keyboard or playing the guitar. And I’m going to pay the person who joins up with me,” he said.

If you love music, especially the type of music that Kilbride likes, he wants to hear from you. You can call him at 419-706-5380.

“I know the new year has just started, but I’d like to find someone as soon as possible as there are gigs waiting for us,” he said. And besides by sometime in April, he and his wife will return up north and won’t be back to their summer home until next season.

Kilbride has been married for 50 years and the couple has three grown boys and six grandchildren, all living up north.

The couple said they enjoy living in Lehigh Acres for part of the year. they said they vacationed in Lehigh for a couple of years at a newer condo and decided to buy one a few doors down when it came up for sale.

The rest is history. Now they come back every fall and winter.

When Kilbride came down, he brought his trusty Gibson with him and he likes to play guitar and is available mostly any afternoon or evenings.

One of his gigs is on January 16, this coming Saturday at 3 p.m., when, according to the East Lee County Library publicists, Kilbride will take music lovers of all ages at the library on a “tuneful journey through the hits of the 40s, 50s and 60s.” To attend, registration if required.

“We’ll have our practice sessions so we will be at our best. I think it will be fun. I want to find someone as soon as possible so we can take advantage of the invitations from the clubs and other organizations in Southwest Florida,” he said.

“Don’t forget,” he said, “it’s a paying position, too.”
