Educational Support Person of the Year finalists announced

Every year, the Lee County School District searches for the top Educational Support Person of the Year.

The district recently recognized five employees as finalists for this year’s award. One finalist from area schools included:

– Migdalia Cruz, of Harns Marsh Elementary

Cruz, or “Dali” as know by her Harns Marsh family, serves as the school’s Parent Involvement Specialist. “Serve” is the perfect word, as she selflessly gives of her time and talents to all stakeholders. She willingly goes above and beyond her regular schedule. She has earned the respect of parents, students, teachers and community members.

It seems hard to believe but in a school of over a thousand students, Cruz knows all of the families. Her positive and friendly attitude builds relationships with parents. Every morning, she greets parents and students during parent drop-off as she safely escorts them across traffic.

Cruz recently worked with community partners, Lexington Country Club, to provide 100 baskets of food for needy families over the holidays. Cruz truly has the heart of a servant and leads by example.

She is very effective at recruiting and delegating diplomatically. Sometimes, it seems as if she knows everyone in the district.

The school can always count on Cruz to ensure the job gets done and done correctly.

The other finalists are:

– Frederick Johnson, of Trafalgar Middle School

– Lino Figueiredo, of Heights Elementary

– Josh Feliciano, of Tanglewood Elementary

– Jill Cornell, of Cypress Lake High School

The district will surprise the winner of this year’s Educational Support Person of the Year Award at a special ceremony on Jan. 26; time and location to be announced.
