Surprise birthday party for artist

They got one on her – a surprise 90th birthday party and for well-known local artist June De Vincent.

“She was surprised as we got several friends together – about 17 of us last week – and had a potluck meal and bestowed June with gifts, cards, hugs, kisses and of course cake and ice cream,” said Lily Nieves who was there to cheer De Vincent on.

June De Vincent is an award-winning artist and has been painting for much of her life.

“A resident of Lehigh Acres, De Vincent has been the recipient of numerous awards over the past 35 years, including four entries into the prestigious ‘Winners Circle’ of the Southwest Florida Art Council,” Nieves said. “She also won the ‘Best of Show’ at the Cape Coral Art League and Arts of the Inlands.”

De Vincent’s works are recognized as some of the best paintings in Southwest Florida.

Her works have been displayed in different venues such as the Alliance For the Arts of the Inlands, the Fort Myers Art League and in doctors’ offices all over Lee County.

You can see some of her art as it is exhibited at Veterans Park Recreation Center where she teaches on Wednesdays.

It was last Wednesday at Veterans Park Recreational Center when her art students and Nancy, a senior recreation specialist, surprised De Vincent with the early birthday party. Her actual birthday is Jan. 25.

Lily Nieves said everyone enjoyed the cake and ice cream,.

“June walked into the Multipurpose Room and was taken aback as we all sang the birthday song. She was truly surprised and posed with many of us as we clicked away with our smart phones,” she said.

Nieves noted the fact that June De Vincent has many friends and agreed that De Vincent didn’t look her age.

Then Nieves said the group pondered the question: “Where will you be at 90?”
