Urgent care facility opens, offers walk-in treatment

Those who need medical help and have no doctor, or their physician’s office is closed, may now get help from MedExpress Urgent Care, which opened last week as Florida’s newest medical center.

It is located at 1120 Homestead Road N. The new center offers walk-in treatment for everyday illness and injury, including more advanced offerings such as onsite X-rays, IVs, labs, minor surgery, stitches and treatment for broken bones, sprains and strains.

Residents of Lehigh will remember the building’s form-stone front and that is was Lehigh’s post office two decades ago and during the intervening years has been home to several small businesses. It has sat idle for several years.

Now the building has been rebuilt inside and out and has become a medical center with parking in the front.

It is not owned by either Lehigh Regional Medical Center in Lehigh nor Lee County Health Systems in Fort Myers and Cape Coral, but it may refer patients to the hospitals for more serious ailments such as a heart attack.

Lehigh is the first to have a MedExpress Urgent Care center in Lee County. Two others are planned one in Cape Coral and the other in Fort Myers.

As a welcoming gift to the community, the Lehigh Acres center is offering free sports physicals to patients ages five years and up from Feb. 10 to Feb. 24.

MedExpress also offers basic wellness and prevention services such as sports and general physicals, immunizations and tobacco cessation counseling. Local employers can utilize MedExpress for employer health services such as employee injury care, workers compensation, screenings and physicals.

“We’re excited to open our center to the Lehigh Acres community,” said Arlene Neal, regional vice president of operations at MedExpress.

She said they have looked at many factors and the Lehigh Acres community and employers seemed to welcome the type of neighborhood health care that they say they are known for friendly, convenient and affordable.”

MedExpress is staffed by a full medical team and is open 12 hours a day, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week and it accepts most insurance plans including Medicare. With no appointment needed, MedExpress provides a convenient option for unscheduled, time-sensitive care, Neal said.

“We know how busy the world is today and how an unexpected illness or injury can be an inconvenience for families and employees, Neal said in an email.

“But at MedExpress, patients can walk-in, wee our friendly medical team and receive high-quality, professional medical treatment in a timely fashion.

“We also coordinate care with other area health providers such as primary care physicians, specialists and area hospitals to ensure Lehigh Acres patients receive the most appropriate follow-up care.”

MedExpress held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open houses for the Lehigh center last Tuesday. It opened up to the public the following day on Wednesday.

MedExpress’ full-service neighborhood medical centers accept most insurance plans and are always fully staffed.
