Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help getting more than $50,000 worth of stolen construction tools back into the right hands, in the wake of a major discovery during a Lehigh drug bust.
On Dec. 10, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at a home on Southwest Ninth Street, after several months of investigation. Upon entering the home, they found several thousand dollars in various forms of narcotics, illegal weapons and cash.
Tacuma Horrobin, 34, and Wade Anderson, 50, were arrested that afternoon.
However in addition to the drugs, detectives also found a massive stash of stolen construction tools – including everything from cement mixers to generators, chains saws and dirt compactors.
While some of the items were able to be traced back and returned to their rightful owners, more than 100 items remain unclaimed.
Most of the items that have been identified at this point were reported as stolen from the central and western parts of Lee County.
“Often times contractors have expensive items stolen, but for some reason don’t report those losses to law enforcement,” Trish Routte, Crime Stoppers coordinator, said. “We’re asking anyone in the construction industry in Lee County to go through their inventory and if they are missing any major pieces of equipment to check the serial numbers and contact either Crime Stoppers or the Lee County Sheriff’s Office to see if their stolen goods may be sitting in a storage room waiting to be returned.”
Anyone with information on where some of these items may have been stolen from, or to whom they belong to, is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
