Lehigh Spring Festival schedule set

By Staff | Mar 9, 2016

Judy Carter

The Lehigh Spring Festival, which begins Friday, March 11 and runs to Saturday, March 19 features an annual 5K Race in the Park at 8 a.m. on Saturday. Festival spokeswoman Judy Carter said the start and finish is at the Recreation Center at Veterans Park.

Entry forms have been available at Home for All The Holidays gift store in Lehigh.

Carter said festival officials want to make sure that the public know that the “grand parade” down Homestead Road usually held on the morning of the last Saturday of the nine-day event, will not be held this year.

With the cost of deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and the closing of streets that disrupts traffic, it may be the last grand parade of the festival.

Officials said that interest in the parade had dropped off, too. It will be replaced with a mini Easter parade for the children and it will be held in Veterans Park.

Local businesses donate to make the festival a success. Many things at the festival must be paid for by the festival committee, including carnival events, country music concerts that travel the entertainment circuits, and other events.

All events are free to the public and are planned for the giant outside stage at the park.

Parking fee donation is $4, according to Carter. She said the money will go toward a local community organization.

Some of the highlights of the show include the country music concerts on March 19, the crowning of pageant queens, the naming of the Festival Idol, both junior and senior, and several other exciting events.

“And of course the new carnival rides for everyone, not just the kids,” Carter said.
