Two drivers from Lehigh Acres were involved in a traffic accident that resulted in the death of a pedestrian.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Donald Harvey Mauler, 61, of Fort Myers, was identified as the pedestrian.

Police said at about 7 p.m. March 6, he was in the westbound outside lane of Daniels Parkway, east of Gateway Boulevard.

A car driven by Michael Lee Lariviere, 61, of Lehigh, was driving west on Daniels and was not able to slow and stop in time and struck Mauler with the undercarriage.

Mauler had been walking in a westerly direction, according to the FHP.

A second vehicle, driven by Ann Farrell, 51, also of Lehigh, was behind Lariviere.

Farrell was unable to slow and stop in time and struck the first vehicle with her front bumper, according to officials.

Neither driver was injured.

Mauler was dragged in a westerly direction and came to a final stop in the outside westbound lane.

Police said the Lariviere’s vehicle came to a controlled stop on the north shoulder of Daniels, facing east. Farrell came to a stop on the south shoulder of Daniels.

A homicide investigation into the accident is ongoing.
