LCSO to host two, communitywide shred events free of charge
Are you concerned about identity thieves stealing your personal information to use your name and good credit to secure fraudulent loans, receive medical care or apply for government benefits?
One way to avoid becoming a victim of this crime is to safely dispose of your personal documents by shredding items that contain your name, address, social security number and other important data.
To help keep your identity safe, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office encourages participation in a community shred event on April 27.
Asecure on-site shredding truck will be available at the Big John’s Plaza in Cape Coral from 9 to 11 a.m. and at the Lee County Election Center, at 13180 S. Cleveland Ave., Fort Myers, from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The event is limited to two boxes per person, and participants are asked to remove all non-paper items, such as paperclips, staples and binders.
Shredding is provided free of charge; however, donations will be accepted to benefit LEAPP.
No commercial shredding.
The event is being sponsored by the Lee Elder Abuse Prevention Partnership.
If you are not sure what to shred, the following listed documents are shred worthy:
– Bank statements, ATM receipts, canceled or voided checks
– Expired driver’s licenses, identification cards, all picture IDs
– Expired credit cards, credit card bills, carbon copies, summaries and receipts
– Documents containing maiden names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, pin numbers, passwords and investment information
– Medical and dental records
