Chamber recognizes deputies

Two deputies were honored by the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce at its regularly monthly luncheon on April 26. Lt. Mark Shelly from the Sheriff’s Office in Lehigh introduced the first officer to be honored as Deputy Michael Truscott. He said Deputy Joshua Prado was also being honored, but was unable to attend.
Shelly is a member of the East District Patrol, Special Operations Unit in Lehigh.
“The two deputies observed a blue Nissan pathfinder commit a traffic offense and they did a traffic stop. When deputies approached the vehicle, they both immediately detected a distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. Deputies made contact with the driver and one of them said ‘there’s a strong odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle.'”
“The driver responded that there was a lot of ‘weed’ inside the vehicle. They detained the driver and the front seat passenger while they further investigated. During the search of the vehicle, deputies found 1.1 pounds of marijuana, 13.6 grams of cocaine, $3,300 in cash and two firearms. The money was seized under the Federal Forfeiture Act,” Shelly said.
The driver was arrested and charged with one count of marijuana distribution, one count of cocaine distribution and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Another award was presented to Debbie Emery, a local health care professional, as the Employee of the Month. The award presentation was made by Stephanie Garrepy, marking director for Gendron Funeral and Cremation Services.
