Blame the old guard

To the editor:

The political cabal: “A secret political clique or faction.” Only in this case it hides right out in plain view. More emphatically put, “A conspiratorial group of plotters or intriguers: ‘Espionage is quite precisely it – a cabal of powerful men, working secretly.'” You pick ’em. In any case is this what we really want? It may be what we deserve because of the careless manner in which we judged our political representatives. This tight-knit group in Washington, D.C., feed upon one another for support and power and we let it happen. It is not limited to one party but rather to the entire political family that keeps getting returned to office each election cycle. That the labels are identified by a “D” or an “R” is of no consequence. The political “I” doesn’t matter. They are content with the leftover scraps from the table. The food is the same, the appetite huge and the supply endless.

This particular political season has brought to front and center the collective worries of these political cabals. One side is terrified that an outsider, who has no need for their financial support, is garnering a substantial portion of the electorate. The other party, who believed they had an “anointed one,” is concerned that she may inside be fitted a wardrobe of orange jumpsuits.

And what, then, is the formula for reform? What will discourage a new beginning with another cabal? Perhaps term limits for all elected offices. This may not be the perfect solution but perhaps it is time to experiment with a modified process. What we have now is not beneficial to the country at large but rather it is limited to an entitled few. And so now they find that the infidels are at the gate. Yes, they are and why is this? The old gods, (a.k.a. the true believers of the faith) have proven themselves to be unworthy of such adoration.

It is most instructive to observe the Nervous Nellies as they rush to and fro declaring their non-involvement with the current offerings carrying their banners. Such loyalty the cabal demands but refuses to pay in kind. They are a most curious lot.
