New church gets its start in Lehigh
Robert Geckler
Rev. Robert Geckler, the new minister of the startup of the Light of Christ Community Church of Lehigh Acres wants to let Lehigh residents know of the new church and invite them to attend.
“We are an open and inclusive, non-denominational church, with a worship style that is both traditional, yet casual. Come as you are,” he said.
He said the small congregation and himself are extending a special welcome to those who are single, married, divorced, gay, straight, rich or poor.
“We extend a special welcome to children and to adults, those who are skinny as a rail or could afford to lose a few pounds, he laughed.
“You’re welcome here if you’re just browsing for a church, just woke up or just got out. We don’t care if you’re more Catholic than the Pope, more Methodist than Wesley, or haven’t been in church since Little Joey’s baptism.
“We welcome soccer mons, Bronco dads, starving artists, tree-huggers, latte sippers, megarians, junk-food eaters. We welcome those who are in recover or still addicted. We welcome you if you’re having problems, if you’re down in the dumps or in need of a prayer. Whether you had church shoved down your throat as a kid or if you don’t like ‘organized religion’ – we’ve been there too,” said Geckler.
Smiling, he continued, “We welcome those who are inked, pierced or both. We welcome tourists, seekers and doubters, troubled hearts … and you.”
Geckler, 59, said the new church has about a dozen members at the present time and is expected to grow.
“We gather for worship and fellowship Sundays at noon in the choir room of the First Presbyterian Church, at 60 Bell Blvd.,” he said.
“Join us for worship and a cup of coffee,” he added.
For more information, call the the office at (239) 491-5539 or email Loccc.lehigh@yahoo.com or revgeckler@sbcglobal.net.
Geckler is married to his wife, Karen, who he says supports him and the church in all ways and they have one daughter. She and her fiance have moved to the area and we are happy to have them now close by.
Geckler said he and his wife moved to Lehigh three years ago.
“We had heard about Lehigh and how friendly the people are here. We found a nice home that had been foreclosed on and we purchased it,” he said.
“Our life is the ministry and now that we have formed the church, we want everyone to know that everyone, no matter their backgrounds, are welcome at the new church.
“We believe you will have a good spiritual experience if you come and worship with us,”Geckler said.
