Suspect sought following random act of road rage
Edgar Keller
Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help tracking down a suspect accused of recently pepper spraying a motorist while stopped at a red light.
The victim said he was at a red light at the intersection of Palm Beach Boulevard and New York Drive at about 3:30 p.m. May 17 when he heard a man in the car next to him screaming profanities at the top of his voice. The victim rolled down his window to advise the agitated driver that he had a child in the car.
The driver’s immediate response was to pull out a can of pepper spray and direct the stream of chemical irritants toward the victim and his car, before taking off in his red Chevy Blazer. Despite being sprayed in the eye, the victim was able to follow the driver long enough to get his tag number, which came back to Edgar Keller, 52.
Keller was last known to be living in Fort Myers and has previous convictions in Lee County for aggravated battery and the possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
He now faces a charge of battery for his recent actions.
Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Keller is asked to call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at (800) 780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
