LEE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE Stolen electronic equipment recovered.

A three-month crime spree came to an end last week with the arrest of two people who live in Lehigh and are accused of stealing more than 250 items from all over the Lehigh area.

Sheriff’s detectives said the two are suspects in dozens of vehicle burglaries.

Arrested and charged with the theft of more than 200 items were Michael Gonzales-Galas, 32, and Sady Zaldivar, 41, both of 511 Upstate Ave. South, in Lehigh. They face burglary, grand theft and fraud charges. The case remains active.

Detectives said they recovered more than 50 designer purses, along with laptop computers and other electronic equipment, watches, credit cards and even a 15-horse outboard motor, stolen right off a boat parking along a home.

But it all came tumbling down for the suspects when deputies said they saw a suspicious vehicle at the Shell gasoline station at the intersection off Loop Blvd. South and Homestead Rd. North.

Investigators said inside the vehicle were Gonzales-Galas and Zaldivar. They agreed to a search of the vehicle and during the search, deputies found items used as burglary tools including gloves, a flashlight and an empty backpack.

When detectives continued to investigate the couple were determined as the same persons they had on surveillance video using stolen credit cards.

Finally, a search warrant was obtained for their home where officers turned up more than 250 stolen items.

The investigation continues.
