Authorities: Knife wielding robber holds up bridal store

As a result of an anonymous Crime Stoppers tip, the man accused of holding up a Lehigh Acres bridal store last week is now behind bars.

Late Monday night, detectives with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office arrested and charged Dayton Gearld Long, 35, of 913 Jaguar Blvd., with one count of armed robbery.

Long is no stranger to a life of crime, with a lengthy rap sheet filled with arrests for burglaries, dealing in stolen property, fraud and the illegal use of credit cards.

For those crimes, Long spent two years in state prison, having been released in March 2015.

He is currently being held without bond in the Lee County Jail.

Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers is asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who robbed a Lehigh Acres bridal store a knifepoint on June 9.

About 1 p.m., a white man, partially masked with a white bandana over his face, entered Maria’s Bridal at 1430 Lee Blvd.

He immediately approached a store employee, brandishing a knife and demanding all the money from the register.

The cashier complied, and the suspect fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash. He was last seen headed southbound on Lee.

The man is described as about 5 feet, 8 inches, approximately 150 pounds, with blue eyes and tattoos on his forearm.

Upon his identification and apprehension, he will be charged with armed robbery.

Anyone with information is asked to call Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers at 800-780-TIPS (8477). All callers will remain anonymous and will be eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
