District 6 school board candidates to debate June 25

By Staff | Jun 15, 2016

The next Lee County School Board debate for the District 6 candidates will be held on June 25 from 3 to 5 p.m. at the East County Regional Library, at 881 Gunnery Road.

The first such debate for school board candidates for District 7 was held on June 11.

A flier that has been sent out to families in the local area notes that “your child’s future depends on you.”

The debates are being sponsored by the Democratic Party of Lee County, Hispanic American Citizens Council, Haitian Education Center, Republican Club of Lee County, Progressive Democratic Club, Radio Caribbean, Haitian American Democratic Club, League of Independent Voters, African Network, Young Professionals, Lehigh Democratic Club and new Majority Alliance.

The candidates for the District 6 seat include Don H. Armstrong, Charles B. Dailey, Richard L. Dunmire and Jane E. Kuckel.

Lehigh resident Ruth Ann Anglickis, a supporter of better education in Lee County Schools, said every parent should be encouraged to attend the debate.

“I will be there,” she said. “I will have questions for them (the candidates),” she said.

The flier urges parents to bring their concerns and questions.

The school board members are non-partisan candidates, meaning they are listed on the ballot as no affiliation candidates.

Districts 6 and 7 are countywide at-large districts. The terms for the districts will be staggered.

For information, call 239-209-6941.

The primary election will be held on Aug. 30 and the general election will be held on Nov. 8.

A candidate forum for the District 7 seat was held on June 11 in Lehigh.
