Education Notes (7/20/16)
Back to School section live on Web site, app
The first day of the 2016-17 school year is Aug. 10.
To help families prepare, the School District of Lee County has created the annual Back to School section on its Web site: www.leeschools.net and on its branded app, available in the App Store for Apple devices and the Play Store for Android devices.
The section contains links to the most requested and popular areas of the Web site. From lunch menu information to school supply lists, to school bell times to registration information – it is a one-stop-shop for back-to-school information.
The goal is to provide as much information in one, centrally located and easy-to-use place as possible. However, if there is anything that a family is looking for but cannot find in the section, they should contact their child’s school directly as that is the best source of information for each school.
To download the district’s app and access information on the go, families should search for “Lee County Public Schools” in the app store for their device.
The app is free, and it is black and gold in color.
The district will be trending its Back to School activities on Facebook and Twitter using #LoveLeeSchools.
Louis recognized at Maryville College
Loudine Louis, from?Lehigh Acres, was named the 2016 Outstanding Senior at Maryville College during the Academic Awards Ceremony on April 23 in the Ronald and Lynda Nutt Theatre of the Clayton Center for the Arts.
A 2012 graduate of Riverdale High School, she is a psychology and theatre studies double major.
Louis is the daughter of Brunett Hyppolite, of Lehigh Acres.
Established by the Alumni Association in 1974, the award recognizes students whose record of academic achievement and participation in extracurricular activities stand out as most exemplary.
Specifically, the award seeks to recognize a senior who has been active in a broad range of activities, who best exemplifies an “ideal” Maryville College graduate and who has the potential to be an outstanding alumnus/alumna – as a representative of the college and in service to the institution.
Only seniors with a minimum grade point average of 3.0 are considered for nomination.
A committee that includes student, faculty and staff representation is given the responsibility of choosing five finalists.
Those finalists are invited to respond in writing to questions about their view of their future role as alumni, their goals for the future and their understanding of how the college has influenced them and helped shape those goals.
Since her arrival on campus in 2012, Louis has taken advantage of the many opportunities on campus.
In addition to performing in numerous MC Theatre Department productions, she has been a member of the Maryville College Concert Choir, the Lassies, and Voices of Praise, which she served as president and vice president.
She has served as an ambassador in the college’s Office of Admissions, a peer mentor, a resident assistant and a tutor in the Academic Support Center.
She has worked with the Black Student Association and interned in the Office of Diversity.
She served as the student representative on the board of the Tennessee Theatre Association for two years.
She has been inducted into honor societies, including Alpha Psi Omega, Alpha Lambda Delta and Alpha Gamma Sigma, and she won several awards on campus, such as the First-Year Spirit of the Ambassador Award, the Sharon Murphy Crane Award in theatre, the Voices of Praise Leadership Award and the Residence Hall Association’s First-Year Experience Award.
