‘Special interests’ are always other guys

By Staff | Jul 27, 2016

To the editors:

The issue is “special interest groups.

What are these groups? To attempt to better understand them we must pull apart and examine those things that make up a “special interest group.” A definition that will work for this inquiry would be: “A collection of individuals who have regular contact and frequent interaction, mutual influence, common feeling of camaraderie, and who work together to achieve a common set of goals.”

And so it would appear that we all, in some measure, are part of a “special interest group.”

Now we can observe how this term is used in the political arena. To the wealthy in this country those on any form of government assistance belongs to that identity. Conversely, the government dependent group considers the wealthy by the same accolade of derision. And who funds the government? The poor do not create wealth.

However, we are now faced with a tremendous influx of illegal immigrants. Do these immigrants know or understand our concept of politics? Success for many of them is a dry place to sleep and a full stomach for the day. They may not be allowed to vote yet but they show up at rallies and thereby give the impression of widespread support. Because of this they are the children of the lost: political orphans and the political homeless.

If we now consider the voting minorities at election time they wander the list of candidates looking for someone that they can call their own all the while clasping their political worry beads. The minority vote like a deer caught in the political headlights and they blindly follow the Democrats lead regardless of whether or not it is actually in their best interest.

On this hangs the fate of the country desperately seeking a way not to become a corpse of socialism.

And so, these “special interest” groups and minorities are constantly pandered to. The Republicans are seeking their own playbook in order to find a way to entice them all to clasp the “R” to their heart.

If the Republicans can succeed even moderately in this quest they will top this election off like Cool Whip on a cupcake!
