A Lehigh Acres teen faces a felony charge of attempted homicide in connection to an incident that police called a “random act of violence.”
John Kelly Destrat, 15, of 2102 S. Haviland Ave., was arrested at Lehigh Senior High School on Aug. 15 and charged with one count of homicide murder dangerous depraved without premeditation, according to the Fort Myers Police Department.
A detention hearing was held Aug. 17 for Destrat, who police said they had been looking for in regards to an assault on a Fort Myers man earlier in the month.
According to a report, the teen faces the charge as an adult.
On Aug. 8, a man was found at a Willard Street home in Fort Myers, where he was suffering with head and stomach injuries. According to the report, the man said he had returned home from work when four men knocked on his door.

When he answered, one of the men asked him about buying one of the bicycles that he repairs. The man was shoved to the ground after he said the bike they wanted was no good. There were shouts of “shoot him, shoot him,” according to the report.
Police said Destrat fired the gun four times at the victim but it jammed. The victim was then injured with hits against his head.
The victim was treated at a local hospital, according to the report. Police said it was a robbery as nothing had been taken from the victim. They also ruled out a provoked assault.
Kerry Antoine, 21, of 5204 Cedarbend Drive, Apt. 3, Fort Myers, was later identified as one of the participants.
Antoine was arrested and charged on Aug. 10 with homicide murder dangerous depraved without premeditation, assault with intent to commit a felony, burglary unoccupied dwelling unarmed, damage property criminal mischief $200 and under and a probation violation, according to the jail booking log.
Police said Antoine is accused of providing the gun and Destrat allegedly pulled the trigger, then struck the victim with the gun when it jammed.
