Lee County operations to make adjustments for coming holiday

By Staff | Aug 31, 2016

The Labor Day holiday on Sept. 5 will result in some closures and schedule changes for Lee County operations.

The changes are as follows:

Solid Waste

All garbage, recycling and yard waste collections in unincorporated Lee County, the city of Bonita Springs and the Town of Fort Myers Beach will take place one day after the regularly scheduled collection day for the entire week beginning Sept. 5.

This means that if the regular collection day is Monday, the collection truck will pick up that material on Tuesday. Tuesday’s regularly scheduled pickups will occur on Wednesday and so on, the rest of the week through Saturday.

Regular collection schedules resume on Sept. 12.

Lee County Solid Waste facilities and offices are closed on Sept. 5, including the Household Chemical Waste Collection Facility, at 6441 Topaz Court, and the Resource Recovery Facility on Buckingham Road.

Due to the holiday, the Topaz Court Solid Waste Annex will be closed on Sept. 3, but open 8 a.m. to noon Sept. 10.

The Solid Waste Department urges all residents to recycle the paper, plastic, metal and glass from their holiday weekend activities.

Utilities

Lee County Utilities is transitioning to a new billing system over the holiday weekend.

Customers will be unable to make online or automated phone payments from 5 p.m. today, Aug. 31, through Sept. 6.

Normal business operations will resume at 8 a.m. Sept. 6.

Customers may continue to make payments in this period at the Customer Service Center, at 7391 College Parkway, Fort Myers, which includes a 24-hour drop box.

LCU will allow an additional one-week grace period during the transition week.

Parks and recreation

Parks, pools and preserves remain open on Monday, but offices and recreation centers are closed until Sept. 6.

Libraries

All library locations will be closed on Monday and each branch will resume regular operating hours on Sept. 6.

Animal Services

Animal Services, at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers, will be closed for the holiday, but will resume regular business hours on Sept. 6.

LeeTran

LeeTran will not run bus, trolley or paratransit service on the holiday. Service resumes on Sept. 6.
