Kaepernick picked wrong venue for protest

By Staff | Sep 7, 2016

To the editor:

I am both a football fan and an advocate of human rights. That being said, I think Colin Kaepernick’s refusal to stand during the national anthem was misplaced. He says his purpose was to protest the brutality of the police.

To begin with, the police are not the only ones who may support the San Francisco 49ers. As we know it is Americans. It is Mr. Kaepernick right to protest, but not on the time he is being paid $19 million a year by San Francisco.

Currently my attitude is this, it is the fans who support Mr. Kaepernick’s team, which is how his salary is derived. Perhaps until he shows his support for America and our military which gives him his rights, we should not support his team.

We should also make him aware that considering the amount of money he is paid, he is welcome to buy a plane ticket to any country in the world where he feels the police are less brutal.
