Officer of the Month recognized

Collin Dunn
Lee County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Collin Dunn, who works out of the East District substation, was honored last week by the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce at its monthly luncheon.
Lt. Mark Shelly presented Dunn with a framed certificate.
Lt. Ed Ahlquist joined Shelly in the presentation at the luncheon, which was held at the Mirror Lake Golf Course’s restaurant.
Shelly said the LCSO was called on Aug. 16 about an occupied burglary. Dunn made contact with the victim, who told him that while inside her home, she heard loud banging coming from her backyard.
When she went to investigate, she noticed that her back door was open and two men were rushing from her home. When confronted by the victim, both men fled on foot.

Shelly said both were later located and “show ups” were conducted with the victim, who was unable to make a positive identification for either of the individuals.
“However, due to the criminal indicators in their demeanor, which was noticed by Deputy Dunn, he furthered the investigation by questioning the suspects,” he said.
Because of Dunn’s diligent efforts, both men confessed. Furthering the investigation, a search of the men’s room revealed evidence of three other recent burglaries in the immediate area.
“When confronted with the evidence during the interview, the men confessed to committing the burglaries and gave intimate knowledge and details that only someone who was there would have known,” he said.
Both men were charged with several counts of burglary.
Attendees were reminded that the Lehigh Expo will be on Sept. 24 and that the after-hours event will be on Sept. 15 at the Gendron Funeral & Cremation.
The Lehigh Expo is a trade show and a craft fair. Exhibitors from a wide variety of businesses and organizations will be on hand to offer the latest in products, services, information and crafts.
Chamber officials said there is something for the whole family, including food and beverages.
There will be 50/50 raffles and door prize raffles.
It is still not too late to become a vendor. Tables start at $50.
