What do you have to lose?

By Staff | Sep 7, 2016

To the editor:

Just this last week, while speaking to a 95 percent white audience, King Trump was trying to appeal to our African-American brothers and sisters by asking the question “What do you have to lose?” Of course he was talking about how terrible life is for the African-Americans in our society and since he is the only person who can fix it, they should be voting for him. I was quite surprised at the lack of any reply by the press and the cable TV people. So I thought that it would be prudent to put in my own 2 cents worth.

What have you got to lose? What have you got to lose? Are you kidding me, Mr. Trump? That has got to be the stupidest, most un-thought out campaign slogan the world has ever known. However, since you brought it up, let me tell you what we all have got to lose if you are elected as our president. Let’s start with the big ticket items. What have you got to lose?

– 240 years of a successful, free democracy governed by the people for the people.

– A stable government we all can count on, with a serious, capable leader at the helm of this huge country.

– Our status of greatness throughout the world.

– Our unwavering commitment to NATO.

– The steady effect of our financial system as it applies to our country and throughout the world.

– A calm, steady hand on our nuclear arsenal and our vast military machine.

– Our commitment to lead in the task to control global warming.

– A leader who would cozy up to the Russians.

Now let us move on to some very important “kitchen table” topics you and your family would lose if Mr. Trump was elected as our president. This is what we would lose.

– You and your children’s Social Security programs as they exist today.

– You and your family’s Medicare benefits as they exist today.

– Any benefits your family has due to Obamacare.

– Any student loans your children may have.

– A strong financial system we can count on day in and day out.

– A Wall Street that the world looks to for a sense of financial stability, not to mention your 401K account.

– An immigration policy that make sense.

– Any and all social outreach programs guaranteed by the government.

– Women’s rights across the board.

– Equal pay for equal work.

– Any hope of a fair, impartial Supreme Court in the near future.

– A leader who would scream “Only I can fix all of our problems.”

– All funding to Planned Parenthood.

So you see, Mr. Trump, we would all have a great deal to lose if you were to be elected as our president.
