If you are an animal lover, you now have an opportunity to let the public know.
The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles has redesigned the Animal Friend specialty license plate.
According to Alexis Bakofsky, a spokeswoman for the DHSMV, the new plates will be available at the local Lee County Tax Collector’s office, at 3114 Lee Blvd., and other areas by Oct. 7.
She added that the plates could arrive earlier than the October date.
The new animal friend plate will cost $25 in addition to the other registration fees, Bakofsky said.
The specialty plate was enacted during the 2004 legislative session.
Bakofsky said the money raised from the sales are distributed to Florida Animal Friend to fund spay and neuter programs statewide. The program is available in Lee.
The plate has been redesigned from the one approved by the General Assembly in Tallahassee, which has been available since April 2005.
By the end of September, there will be more than 19,589 registered Animal Friend specialty license plates in Florida.
In addition to the newly designed plate, there are several other specialty license plates.
Bakofsky said the plates can be found online at: www.flhsmv.gov/ dmv/specialtytaga/.
The public can also find safe driving tips and techniques by downloading the Florida Driver License Handbook online.
