Former U.S. president’s recent visit to Fort Myers
To the editor:
Former President William Jefferson Clinton honored Fort Myers with a speaking engagement at Riverside Community Center on Oct. 11 at 4 p.m. Three hundred people were admitted to stand in the center and 200 more watched from the outside. If we had just one more day, I believe we could have filled Harborside. Bill’s popularity is alive and well.
Bill Clinton did what he does best (Explainer-in-Chief). He described Hillary’s goals and in detail described how she planned to achieve them. He described how Hillary planned to pay for infrastructure, job creation and small business help to encourage more creation of new jobs. She plans a tax increase on the top 2 percent of the income bracket.
He discussed her plans for education expansion, pre-school through college. Early education spending is essential to providing that every child in America will have a chance to succeed. Community college will be free. Reduced costs will be available for a four-year university tuition for lower income families. For those who have accrued debt at 9 percent, relief will be to reduce the rate to 4.5 percent. Repayments of existing loans will no higher than 10 percent of net pay.
She will improve the Affordable Care Act for those with high co-pays. She wants to fix ACA, not repeal it. Hillary wants to restore our manufacturing by creating new products that can only be made in America, thus keeping jobs in America.
Bill’s speech was, as always, colorful, informative, interesting and sincerely from the heart.
