The wrong wall
To the editor:
Let’s not talk about a wall that will never be built or paid for by the Mexican government. Let’s talk about a wall that really needs to be taken down, not built up, the Republican Wall of Obstruction.
Donald Trump should be ashamed of himself. When asked what he would do to help this country, his rebuttals rely solely on the word “disaster” and criticizing and insulting Hillary and President Obama.
In 2008 we were near another depression as bad the one that originated in 1929. Unemployment was scraping 10 percent, 800,000 jobs a month being lost, the DOW was nearing 7 percent and the economy was, using Trump’s favorite word, a “disaster.”
Now unemployment is at 4.9 percent, the DOW over 18,000 and the economy back on track. This was accomplished despite a constant wall of obstruction initiated by the Republican Party.
Also, Mr. Trump, a single Senator does not have the authority to change tax codes, so stop the ridiculous blame. To watch a man at a political debate pace the floor with a disgusted twisted face constantly getting behind Hillary and interrupting her allowed time is sickening. People trying to put something like this in The White House is unbelievable.
When they criticize Obamacare I wish I could join the discussion. I spent 35 years in the insurance business and having read most of the ACA I would love to rebuttal and shut Trump’s mouth. First of all remember, Republicans fought Medicare from 1951 to 1965, they fought Social Security right to the Supreme Court in 1939. Since Medicare covered pre-existing conditions for seniors, not one attempt was made by the Republican Party to improve healthcare. They obstructed Hillary’s plan in the ’90s and are still working on obstructing Obamacare. It is estimated up to 17,000 Americans may die because of the refusal to expand Medicaid. We cannot throw millions of people under the bus solely for insurance company profit and political obstruction of Obamacare.
Unfortunately, the passing of Obamacare was unlike Medicare. States were given the right of control, bad mistake. Sec 2794 of the ACA tried to give people lower healthcare costs. Insurance companies were to present losses to the State Insurance Commissioner and it was his authority to grant a rate increase only if it justifiably matched the losses. Knowing this would make Obamacare look good, this had to be alleviated. Our governor passed bill SB1842 taking this authority away from The State Insurance Commissioner. This allowed insurance companies like Florida Blue to run rampant with rates and deductibles and send out letters blaming Obamacare. Thirty states are in the control of Republican governors so the obstruction in any way possible continues throughout the country.
Think about it, if Obamacare works in every way, would a Republican get elected or re-elected?
Seniors have saved over $12 billion in Part D drug costs because the ACA cut the donut hole. ACA eliminated the caps to a policy. Insurance companies must use at least 80 percent of your premium to pay medical bills. Aetna returned millions to policyholders because they didn’t.
Repeal Obamacare?
Never.
Republicans for 50 years never did a thing toward healthcare, we ranked 38th in the world.
We need to work for the people. Trump cares about Trump and not you. Again using his favorite word, if you put Trump in the White House, healthcare will be a “disaster.”
