Elected candidates have great responsibility

By Staff | Nov 2, 2016

To the editor:

My name is Ed Brantley and I am a candidate for the Lee County Mosquito Control District, Area 1.

The candidates whom we as voters choose to elect have a great responsibility to the health, safety and welfare of the community.

The Lee County Mosquito Control District board is comprised of seven commissioners representing seven areas. The areas are divided to have an equal share of the population. Commissioners are elected, at large, in the General Election, by qualified electors residing within the District. This is a non-partisan office which serves a four-year term. The Lee County Mosquito Control District encompasses 98 percent of the geographical area of Lee County. The only area of Lee County not within Lee County Mosquito Control District is Fort Myers Beach.

The Commissioners of the Lee County Mosquito Control District also serve as Commissioners for the Lee County Hyacinth Control District.

The Lee County Hyacinth Control District strives to promote sound aquatic plant management through operations, research and outreach education emphasizing integrated management techniques.

I am lifetime resident of this community and care about its future and well being. As a licensed professional engineer, public health and safety are a top priority. I would make careful decisions based on analytical analysis and would ensure public health and safety remain a top priority.
