Rooneys win U.S. House seats

Francis Rooney

Lehigh Acres is made up of Congressional Districts 17 and 19, which cover from Naples and Fort Myers to Sarasota.

In the Nov. 8 general election, Republican Rep. Francis Rooney and Republican Tom Rooney were elected to the district.

The men are not related.

In District 19, Francis Rooney won over Democratic candidate Robert M. Neeld. He received 64.05 percent of the votes, with a total vote count of 175,887 in Lee County. There were also two write-ins, David Byron and Timothy John Rossano.

He will replace U.S. Rep. Curt Clawson, who chose not to seek re-election.

Tom Rooney

In District 17, incumbent U.S. Rep. Tom Rooney won his fifth term, defeating Democratic candidate April Freeman and Tom Sayer III, who ran with no party affiliation.

Tom Rooney won 21,722 votes in Lee County, or 61.38 percent. Freeman garnered 34.41 percent – 12,177 votes- while Sayer took home 4.22 percent or 1,493 votes.
