Annual Music Under the Oaks to feature three performances

Gerry Murphy
With the presidential election over and Thanksgiving on Thursday, it is time to relax from the stress.
That is the suggestion from Gerry Murphy, director of the House of Prayer Retreat Center located in Alva.
“Set aside Sunday, Dec. 4, from noon to 4 p.m. to enjoy the fifth annual Music Under the Oaks on the tree-laden grounds,” he said.
Murphy said the concert will include hours of energizing classic rock music by Mike & Owen, West Virginia-style bluegrass music by the Bear Hill band, and the Southwest Florida debut of Texas singer and songwriter Krysti Subieta.
And, the event is free – no stress there, he added.

Parking is free, however, food donations will be accepted for an Alva food bank.
Don Ruane, a board member for the center, said a visit to the center is a great way to relieve the stress of the season.
“You can find your way to the tunes with a pleasurable drive in the country past pastures and groves not even a half hour from downtown Lehigh,” he said.
“Signs will guide your way,” Ruane added.
During the concert, there will be food, drinks and face painting, as well as opportunities to stroll the 10-acre campus.
Center representatives will be on hand to answer questions.
Ruane noted that the public is in store for some great entertainment at the concert.
The entertainers include:
– Mike Kennedy & Owen Feeney return to the stage with their classic rock music. In their daytime jobs, Kenney owns a marketing firm and teaches at Florida Gulf Coast University, while Feeney is a dentist.
– The Bear Hill band returns with its combination of traditional bluegrass and gospel music from the West Virginia mountains. They have performed with many top entertainers, including Claire Lynch, Mountain Heart, JR Sisk and Nothin Fancy.
– Austin Texas singer and songwriter Krysti Subieta produces and performs music to inspire and celebrate life. The daughter of Bolivian immigrants, she released her first album, “Find Yourself,” this year.
According to the center, the concert will embody the its 30-plus years’ tradition to welcome all ages and faiths.
