LCSO deputy recognized for burglary arrest

By Staff | Dec 7, 2016

Tom Rall

A Lee County Sheriff’s Lehigh Office deputy was recognized for his outstanding work in the community on Nov. 30 at the Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce’s meeting at the Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham Lehigh.

Deputy Tom Rall was chosen as the Officer of the Month for November.

In October, the LCSO East District experienced an increase in daytime residential burglaries in the area of North Sunshine Boulevard. After several weeks, the LCSO identified a suspect.

The person of interest was from Miami-Dade County and had no known associates, vehicles or locations to place him in Lee County, the chamber members were told.

Personnel assigned to the East District increased their patrols to try and locate the person or additional clues to his location.

MEL TOADVINE Carley Brantley, with the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, was a guest speaker at last week’s Greater Lehigh Acres Chamber of Commerce meeting.

Rall was reviewing the information collected and submitted to the East District when he noticed that there were several calls into dispatch about a suspicious, small black vehicle during the time of the burglaries.

“All of these ‘Signal 13’ calls were closed out as ‘gone on arrival,'” the chamber members were told.

Rall took the information about the vehicle, location of the burglaries, time and the known suspect and went to a specific area off of North Sunshine Boulevard to try and locate the vehicle.

Within five minutes of arriving in the area, Rall noticed a vehicle matching the description he had uncovered and conducted a traffic stop. Driving the vehicle was the wanted suspect.

The traffic stop led to the arrest of the person, a previously convicted felon, for the multiple residential burglaries in Lehigh.

Rall’s application of intelligence-led policing by analyzing the collected information, producing actionable intelligence and acting on that intelligence has had a positive effect on the local crime rate, the chamber members were told.

He was honored for his highly creditable accomplishment in this case and for his devotion to his duty and service to the public.

Capt. Todd Garrison, the East District commander, presented Rall with a plaque and the chamber gave him a standing ovation.

Carley Brantley, spokeswoman for the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District, gave an update on the organization’s activities. The chamber was invited to the upcoming swearing in ceremony for the new ?board.

On Jan. 28, the chamber will hold its 25th Annual Awards Gala at 8 p.m. at the Pelican Preserve, at 10571 Vento Drive, Fort Myers.
