Lee County accepting nominations for annual Paulette Burton award
Nominations are being accepted for the 2016 Paulette Burton Citizen of the Year Award.
Lee County is looking for nominees who get involved in the community and work diligently for causes in which they believe.
The annual award strives to recognize a citizen who has provided outstanding civic contributions to Lee County government.
The criteria includes a positive attitude, knowledge of the objectives and activities of Lee County government, a demonstrated interest in community/county government partnerships, and promotion of harmony between the community and county government.
The Lee County commissioners will select the winner.
Nomination forms are available at the Lee County libraries and recreation centers or online at:?www.leegov.com/citizenoftheyear.
Nominations due by Feb. 3.
The award was created in 1991 to honor Paulette Burton, a long-time Sanibel resident and government watchdog.
Two county hospitals named ‘Top Hospitals’
For the first time, Lee Health’s Golisano Children’s Hospital of Southwest Florida and Cape Coral Hospital have been named Top Hospitals by The Leapfrog Group.
Only 115 hospitals in the country, including 11 in Florida, earned the distinction, which highlights each hospital’s commitment to patient safety and quality.
Since it opened in 1994, Golisano Children’s Hospital has been a “hospital within a hospital” at HealthPark Medical Center.
Through the years, its services have expanded to include specialty care areas, such as the Level II and Level III neonatal intensive care units, a Regional Perinatal Intensive Care Center and pediatric emergency services.
Now, construction is nearing completion on a new, 300,000-square foot, seven-story facility on the HealthPark campus.
Earlier this fall, Cape Coral Hospital earned an ‘A’ for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group.
The selection of Top Hospitals is based on the results of the 2016 Leapfrog Hospital Survey.
Performance across many areas of hospital care is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, maternity care and a hospital’s ability to prevent medication errors.
The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
