Former Lehigh resident opens new art studio in Fort Myers

A grand opening took place on Dec. 3 for the new art studio of Marcus Jansen, a former Lehigh Acres resident.
More than 7,500 square foot, Unit A is at 2633 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Fort Myers.
Now residing in Fort Myers, Jansen has been recognized as a top contemporary artists in the country, with his works shown worldwide.
“This was an historic event,” Unit A team member Tonda Lawson said.
Closed for years, the newly renovated building is in an area where a few years ago some would have preferred not to walk.
“I am very happy we have the space on MLK,”?Jansen said. “I always wondered why an area like McGregor, with an industrialist’s name like Ford is booming, and a name that stood for peace such as Dr. King Jr. is not.”
The event featured pianist music professor William Dawson.
Among those in attendance were Lawrence Voytek, Robert Rauschenberg’s longtime art fabricator; former urban developer Don and Nina Paight; Gisela Carbonell, curator of special collections at the Baker Museum; Dieter Rampl, chairman at Hypo Kunsthalle Munich; and Munich photographer Max Ott.
Ott spent the week documenting Jansen for a new book being published next year by the leading German art book publisher Hirmer Verlag, of Munich.
Special guests included art historian Dr. Elmar Zorn, who held a speech about Jansen. He organizes Jansen’s German and Austrian solo museum exhibitions.
The German tour will launch with an introduction exhibition in January in Duesseldorf, with Galerie Kellermann, then it will travel to Art Kalsruhe Germany.
Unit A is open by appointment only and once a month for hosting private events.
