The Naked Tree: Local woman sees beauty in old dead tree

PHOTO SPECIAL TO THE CITIZEN The naked tree, a thing of beauty to Lynn Lehman, of Lehigh?Acres.
Lehigh Acres resident Lynn Lehman says that there is a tree at Joel Boulevard and East 17th Street that has character and is a thing of beauty in her eyes.
She calls it “The Naked Tree” and wrote a poem about it.
Lehman said she and her husband moved to Lehigh about 18 years ago and it has been there for as long as she can recall.
“It has not changed in appearance at all,” she said. “Because of the beauty I see in looking at it as I pass by, I felt inclined to write about it, hoping to share my feelings with the pubic.”
Lehman, 89, is a poet and has had several poems published.

“I know this is out of the ordinary, but this tree is something beautiful,” she said. “I do not know the name of the tree, except I call it the naked tree.”
“I enjoy seeing it when I drive by it,” Lehman said. “Others may not notice it, but it has attracted me.”
She and her husband have been married 70 years and her 90th birthday is coming this month.
“I enjoy playing games on the computer. We try to keep busy,” she said.
Lehman asked if anyone has ever been asked to define beauty, only to turn to the well-known Greek adage: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
“I can unequivocally state that I find beauty in the naked tree,” she said. “Having passed this tree many times over the years, I find myself looking forward to yet another trip past the tree that I find has character, endurance of wind, rain, drought and, one might add, fortitude.
“One need not look beyond what is already out there, stop and observe, find the beauty we have in our surroundings, available to us every day,” she said.
