Lee County accepting nominations for award

Nominations are being accepted for the Paulette Burton Citizen of the Year Award.

Lee County is looking for nominees who get involved in the community and work diligently for causes in which they believe.

The annual award strives to recognize a citizen who has provided outstanding civic contributions to Lee County government.

The criteria includes a positive attitude, knowledge of the objectives and activities of Lee County government, a demonstrated interest in community/county government partnerships, and promotion of harmony between the community and government.

Nomination forms are available at the Lee County libraries and recreation centers or at:?www.leegov.com/citizenoftheyear.

Nominations due by Feb. 3.

Petco Foundation Lifesaving Impact Grant given to county

Lee County Domestic Animal Services has received a $47,500 Lifesaving Impact Grant sponsored by the Petco Foundation.

The grant will be used for the county’s “Give Hope to Paws” campaign to launch in 2017. It is designed to reunite more pets with owners, increase pet adoptions, educate the public about responsible pet ownership, and increase the foster and volunteer network.

Lee County Domestic Animal Services’ adoption hours are 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday at the shelter, at 5600 Banner Drive, Fort Myers.
