Lehigh man accused in fatal shooting
The Fort Myers Police Department have made an arrest in a Christmas morning drive-by shooting that left one man dead.
At about 2:30 a.m. Dec. 25, police responded to the area of 4827 Nottingham Drive in reference to a drive-by shooting.
Upon arrival, officers located a Hispanic man suffering from a gunshot wound. The man, Juan Gabriel Maldonado-Sepulveda, 21, of Fort Myers, died at the scene.
Officers and investigators conducted an intense neighborhood canvas and quickly identified Raul Muniz, 23, of Lehigh Acres, as a suspect.
Less than six hours after the shooting, Muniz was taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Florida Regional Task Force and members of the LCSO.
He was located at 5013 Leonard Blvd. S.
Muniz was transported to the Lee County Jail and charged with second-degree murder.
“Our investigators did a phenomenal job in quickly identifying Muniz as the person responsible for this senseless act of violence on Christmas morning,” Lt. Jay Rodriguez, of the Fort Myers Police Department, said.
“Our partners at the U.S. Marshals Office and the Lee County Sheriffs Office played a vital role in assisting FMPD with removing this violent offender off our streets and keeping our community safe,”?he added.
