Obama eschewed presidential responsibility

By Staff | Jan 4, 2017

To the editor:

Was President Obama elected president or king? A king does not have a constitution to encumber him. However, the president in a democracy needs to lead by working with Congress. An effective president is a negotiator who communicates with all parties to find a solution acceptable to the majority and takes responsibility for the outcome.

Obama has chosen to not do that work. Even the Democrats in Congress seldom hear from him. With Obama it has been my way or no way. When he lost congress to the Republicans he chose the easy, but very temporary path of executive orders some already found unconstitutional. As far as responsibility, even though he said during the campaign that his policies are on the ballot, he blamed the Russians, the news media, white men and lack of clear communication of his policies for the election losses. He takes no responsibility for the loss even though under his eight-year watch Democrats have lost 13 seats in the Senate, many in the House, 35 State legislatures and 40 percent of their governors. If a football team lost most of their games for eight years what coach would not be held accountable?

I hear that Obama will be an antagonist after he leaves office. That would certainly fit one who lacks leadership skills. I must admit he is cool and fits very well in the entertainment world, an obvious reason for his popularity.
