Fire board to meet at LA-MSID, expect big crowd
Commendations, kudos, and possibly a new board structure is expected to highlight the Jan. 17 meeting of the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District board.
The meeting will begin at 5 p.m. in the auditorium of the Lehigh Acres Municipal Services Improvement District at 601 East County Lane, a changed date and a changed location due to the expected crowd.
A good turnout is expected for several presentations, including Firefighter of the Year, a department spokesperson said.
Others will be recognized for years of service.
The public is invited to attend and there will be finger foods available following the ceremony.
The recognitions will likely be the first thing on the agenda when it is published this week.
After the awards presentations, regular business of the fire district board will take place.
When new commissioners are elected in November, the board meets to elect its chair, usually at a December or January meeting. That has not yet happened.
Presently Cathy Kruse, who was re-elected in November, is the presiding chairman. Two new board members also were elected – Robert Anderson, Seat 3, and Debra Cunningham, Seat 4 – replacing David Adams and Larry Becker, who did not seek re-election.
Kruse is expected to seek the chairmanship again, though some believe Commissioner Linda Carter will seek the chairmanship, as well.
The fifth member of the board is Matt Smith.
The meeting will be presided over by Interim Chief Rob Dilallo.
