Robert Eugene Woodward

A criminal couple who conned several Southwest Florida residents out of thousands of dollars through dirty car deals have finally been caught, according to officials.

Arkansas State Troopers arrested and charged Robert E. Woodward, 46, of Gastonia, North Carolina, on Tuesday following a pursuit across the southern edge of Little Rock, along Interstate 30 and Interstate 440.

Woodward is wanted in as many as five states on 15 felony warrants.

At about 9 a.m., a Dodge pick-up truck was stopped by a state trooper for swerving through the eastbound traffic lanes on I-30, near the Arch Street overpass. Woodward was identified as the driver.

While the trooper was checking Woodward’s driver license, Woodward fled the traffic stop.

He entered the I-440 interchange and attempted to escape the pursuit by moving to opposing lanes of traffic along I-440, before entering the westbound I-30 ramp, near the location where the pursuit began.

Attempts to stop Woodward with immobilization techniques failed. At 9:19 a.m., troopers rammed the truck and shot-out a tire disabling the vehicle.

Woodward initially refused to comply with verbal orders by troopers to exit the truck until a Little Rock Police Department K-9 approached the truck, at which time he surrendered. A passenger in the truck, Madison Hall, 20, also surrendered.

One firearm has been recovered from the truck and an investigation is underway.

Woodward is wanted for a multitude of charges, including escape, assault with a weapon and assault on a law enforcement officer. Woodward was booked into the Pulaski County Jail.

Hall is being questioned by the Arkansas State Police.

As of today, it is unknown when Woodward and Hall will be brought back to Lee County to address the allegations against them.

“We knew they’d come up for air at some point,” Trish Routte, Southwest Florida Crime Stoppers coordinator, said. “You can only run for so long, and their time clearly ran out.”
