To the editor:

We have canceled travel to your area for the first time since 1968, not because of the Zika virus, but because of Florida’s continuing and growing disregard for the protection of its unique natural resources.

For years we picked up trash on the beaches, but last year’s release of toxic fresh water from Lake Okeechobee into the Gulf was tragic. The amount of marine life carnage on the beach on Sanibel and in the Everglades was horrific.

Miles of mounds of dead species is shameful in a state we no longer want to support with our dollars.
