Trump had his chance

By Staff | Jan 25, 2017

To the editor:

This comes to you in response to Barbara Steffens’ letter published in the Jan.18 edition of the Lehigh Acres Citizen.

The writer believes it is a good thing that, in our democratic republic, a majority of U.S. citizens should not decide who will be our president. What?! Intuitively that just does not seem right. If the president is to represent all Americans, shouldn’t the majority of Americans decide who will be their leader?

Also, the writer thinks we should give the president-elect a chance. I am not inclined to give Mr. Trump any more chances.

Did Mr. Trump ever give to our 44th president any kind of a chance? No! During the past eight years, Trump has relentlessly challenged President Obama’s legitimacy as president. I choose to follow the example Mr. Trump himself set for us eight years ago and do everything I can to impede the upcoming administration from implementing its agenda.

Mr. Trump has had more than 18 months since his announced candidacy to act presidential and he has failed. He does not deserve any more chances.

My hope is he will recognize the damage his candidacy has done to the fabric of the nation and he will resign before any more harm is done.
