Regarding ‘Paying for the Wall’
To the editor:
I know it is popular myth that U.S. corporations do not pay taxes, as Mr. Kirkpatrick alleges in his letter in the Feb. 22 Citizen indicates. However, the fact is that the U.S. corporate tax rate is one of the highest in the world.
As to the payment for the wall, that 20 percent tax on imports would, at a minimum, affect every one of the VW Jettas, Beetles and Golfs that cross across the U.S. border everyday from Puebla, Mexico. Those are vehicles that would have been made in the U.S. (Tennessee) by real Americans had our tax rates been lower.
Tell me, is that bad?
Plus, the rising tide of illegal immigrants would be reduced so that more law-abiding immigrants as well as natural U.S. citizens would not see the wage lowering competition for real jobs that exists today.
Tell me, is that bad?
