A Lehigh Acres man accused of stealing from construction sites leads detectives right to his front door.

Over the past six months, multiple thefts have occurred at a construction site at 9470 Sardinia Way in Fort Myers, where lumber and appliances were taken from residential units under construction.

In response, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office and Fort Myers Police Department set up a joint burglary suppression operation. Surveillance footage from last week shows a white Chevrolet pickup truck, bearing Florida license CZHG69, enter the neighborhood and turn off its headlights. The driver exited the vehicle and stole $400 worth of plywood.

On April 6, LCSO and FMPD detectives were waiting as the same vehicle entered the site.

Amaury Heirro-Fernandez, 42, of 275 Ground Dove Circle, was observed pulling on door handles and trying to open garage doors. He then entered a home under construction and loaded about 50 2-by-4’s, valued at $250, into the cargo area of his truck. He turned his headlights off and exited the community.

Detectives followed Heirro-Fernandez home and made contact with him at his front door.

When asked where he came from with his truck, he told detectives that he just left Wal-Mart. When they said they observed him stealing lumber, Heirro-Fernandez declined to answer any more questions.

Heirro-Fernandez was arrested and charged with two counts of burglary unoccupied structure unarmed, along with trespassing posted construction site, larceny petit theft and larceny grand theft $5,000 less than $10,000.

He remains at the Lee County Jail on $206,500 bond.

Heirro-Fernandez is also a suspect in construction site thefts in the Lindsford Community, at 3943 Ashentree Court, Fort Myers.

Officials reported that the investigation is ongoing.
