Batch 1 Student Assignment compete
Preliminary data indicates more than 84 percent of families received their first-choice school for the 2017-18 school year. In addition, over 95 percent received one of their top three choices.
Eighty-seven precent of the students entering kindergarten, 82 percent of the students entering sixth grade and 84 percent of the students entering ninth grade received their first choice.
Almost 5,000 student applied online to participate in the Student Assignment process.
Parents who chose the online option are able to view their student’s assigned school by visiting: www.leeschools.net/ and entering their PIN
The district will mail notices on April 21 to participating families.
If a student received a school other than their first choice, they are automatically placed in the eligibility pool for their first-choice school. Parents do not need to request placement in an eligibility pool.

Students excel at fair
Finalists from the 60th Annual Thomas Alva Edison Kiwanis Science and Engineering Fair participated at the 62nd Annual State Science and Engineering Fair of Florida STEM Competition.
The following Lee County students placed, with each receiving a scholarship to Florida Gulf Coast Universality:
– Morgan Barkhurst, of North Fort Myers Academy of the Arts: Chemistry (Junior Division), first place, “BPA Free? Let’s See! The Study of BPA in Plastics Using a UV-Vis Spectrophotometer”
– Kadin Musco, of Varsity Lakes Middle School: Animal Sciences (Junior Division), third place, “Moo-nure; The Final Answer”
– Sierra Edelstein, of Gulf Middle School: Earth & Environmental Sciences (Junior Division), third place, “The Pearl of the Ocean: Do Freshwater Releases from Lake Okeechobee Affect the Filtration Rate of Eastern Oysters Crassostrea virginica in Southwest Florida Estuaries?”
– Caspian Schultz, of North Fort Myers Academy of the Arts: Microbiology (Junior Division), third place, “Strike! Spare Me the Bacteria”
– Jennifer Jacoby, of Gulf Middle School: Plant Sciences (Junior Division), honorable mention, “Radiation and Radish Seeds”
– Heidi Kinsey, of Cypress Lake Middle School: Environmental Engineering (Junior Division), recognition, “A Hairy Solution”
– Dahlia Dry, of Fort Myers High School: Mathematics & Computational Sciences (Senior Division), third place, “Looking into the Past for Insight on the Future: Predictive Analytics and Data Science for Time Series Data”
– Shaan Chaudhari, Ethan Leung and Jash Patel, of Fort Myers High School: Physics & Astronomy (Senior Division), fourth place, “Effects of Neodymium Magnetic Fields on Rhizochlonium Algae Growth”
