Lee County pulls permit reports

During April, contractors pulled 96 permits to build single-family houses collectively valued at about $27.7 million in unincorporated Lee County. That compares to 112 permits issued in March 2017 and 93 issued in April 2016, according to the Lee County Department of Community Development.

Also during April, 12 multi-family units valued at about $500,000 were permitted, compared to 48 units in March 2017 and 28 units in April 2016.

General commercial activity was valued at about $20.7 million for 21 permits, compared to about $4.2 million in March 2017 and about $1.7 million in April 2016.

Lee County Community Development issued 4,023 permits of all kinds in April.

LCDAS to host promotions

Lee County Domestic Animal Services will feature two promotions in May.

– May 1-31: In honor of prom season, adoption fees for senior pets will be $20. Adult dogs and cats will cost $30. Valued at $500, the package includes: spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, Lee County pet license, microchip ID, de-worming, heartworm test for dogs six months and over, feline AIDS and leukemia test for cats, pet behavior helpline and a 10-day pet guarantee.

– May 20: To help with kitten season, a “kitten shower” event will be held from noon to 3 p.m. Several groups will join Animal Services and presentations are planned on topics, such as fostering and adoption.

The adoption center is open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday. Available pets can be viewed online at www.leelostpets.com or on Facebook.

Business, Retail Crime Awareness Seminar set

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the South American Theft Group Intelligence Network and Keiser University will host the 2017 Business and Retail Crime Awareness Seminar on May 11 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Keiser University, at 9100 Forum Corporate Parkway, Fort Myers.

Expert speakers will share the newest information on cyber security risks, credit card fraud and other serious issues beneficial to business owners, employees, customers and stakeholders.

The topics to be covered are:

– Beyond the traffic stop: Learn to identify counterfeit credit cards, gift cards and fraudulent checks

– How to plan for workplace violence and/or an active shooter situation

– Stealing from your bottom line: Traveling gypsies (thieves) and the crimes they commit

– Business security risks: Cybersecurity and Data Breaches

Continental breakfast and lunch served.
