LAMS recognized
Lehigh Acres Middle School was recognized on April 18 at the Lee County School Board meeting for being an AVID National Demonstration School.
AVID – Advancement Via Individual Determination – is a college ready program coordinated by teachers Debra Prashad, Monica Walker and Patty Golden.
Golden named an AVID Teacher of the Year
Patty Golden, of Lehigh Acres Middle School, was recently chosen by the Lee County School District as the Middle School AVID Teacher of the Year.
Golden, a 10-year veteran teacher at Lehigh Middle, teaches eighth-grade AVID and seventh-grade critical thinking classes.
She earned a bachelor’s degree from Clarion State University in Pennsylvania and a master’s degree from Hodges University.
STEM@Work to wrap up
The Foundation for Lee County Public Schools will hold its annual STEM@Work wrap-up event on May 10 from 10:30 a.m. to noon on the Library Lawn at Florida Gulf Coast University, at 1380 Colonial Blvd., Fort Myers.
A team of four students from each participating high school will give a presentation that demonstrates how they have benefitted from the STEM@Work program.
The top two teams will receive laptops and Kindle Fire tablets.
Nominations being taken for foundation award
The Uncommon Friends Foundation is accepting nominations for the annual Character Education Teacher Award.
Educators in elementary, middle and high schools in Lee, Charlotte and Collier counties who have taught the foundation’s Character Education Curriculum are eligible.
It recognizes educators who teach character education using the curriculum, as well as inspire their students to adopt and live by the ethical characteristics of the five uncommon friends.
The award will be presented on Nov. 2 at the Uncommon Evening.
